SYNOPSIS:
After 12 years, 4 months and 1 and 1/2 weeks of marriage, his wife packs up and leaves with their daughter. So he writes an Indie novel. And it becomes a bestseller. Well, sort of.
His fame brings him the lifestyle of a rockstar, and he has the fan mail (i.e. female undergarments, probably clean) to prove it. But seeing his fame, his wife suddenly believes in marriage counseling. Their homework: to create something beautiful for each other. So he writes Our Story, his literary secret-weapon that will win his wife back. But in the process he discovers that true love is more than just ticking the right boxes on a checklist.

AUTHOR BIO:
Morgan Parker is the pen name for a shy and introverted former banker. Because he could never balance his cash at the end of the banking day, he made up stories in order to keep his job. None of those stories was Textual Encounters, which is great because readers will discover a truly unique and original romance that has never been told before.

Synopsis:
Katie discovers an unlocked iPhone in the back seat of a taxi. But instead of turning it in to the driver as lost, she decides to keep it for herself.
Outside of the usual clutter you would expect to find on a smartphone, what captures Katie's interest is the single conversation she finds on the phone's secure text messaging service, a three-month dialogue between a woman with an uncertain past named Christine and a single, eligible man named Jake. From Strangers to Soulmates in 90 Days What starts out as a message intended for someone else ends up being the beginning of a relationship more powerful than anything Christine or Jake have ever experienced. But nothing ever turns out to be as good as it initially seems and their histories slowly reveal details and past lovers that threaten to derail their humble quest for love. Forgotten In The Back Seat of a New York City Taxi Can Christine and Jake overcome the seemingly insurmountable obstacles, doubts and secrets that endanger their love? If so, why would such a relationship get forgotten in the back seat of a New York City taxi? Presented in a Format Unlike Any Other You Will Find Follow Katie as she reads through the 3 months of conversations that form The Christine + Jake Affair and provide the foundation for the Textual Encounters Trilogy

Interview

  1. How are you taking all the female attention from your books?

I don't know that I'm taking female attention, because not all women like my story and/or writing style in Non Friction. However, the novel is clearly a love story and even though it's a difficult one, most people (not just women) enjoy love stories. I think that's all I've done - written a love story that people can either relate to or understand.

  1. Is it hard being a male writer in a strong female genre?

That's a great question. I remember pointing out to my son a few weeks ago that if I had been smarter as a young child, I would have taken ballet lessons with a bunch of women, rather than play sports with a bunch of guys. His response was "Gross," and my wife's response was, well, censored even though it was well-deserved. So the problem I have in this genre is that I really have to earn the trust of my female readers, I have to prove myself. But I'm fine with that - I am always humbled by the number of readers who will write to me and thank me for a beautiful love story (who also go on to admit to distrusting male authors in this genre). The other difficulty is that I do not write as beautiful and lovingly as a female author would (no matter what some of my readers might say to the contrary, I know where my strengths lie).

  1. Do any of your books have a strong personal connection for you?

I have a strong connection with all of my books. I find that I tend to really get into character. For Non Friction, I would send my self underwear in the mail, just to see how it felt from an egotistical point of view. I also spent a ton of time with my daughter and allowed myself to fall in love with how she behaved, good or bad. Life is different when you're a 4-year Princess versus a jade old man. So what I've taken away from writing that novel is that in order to love life, you really need to see it through the eyes of a child. Take those risks, be silly and don't give a [censored] what anyone else thinks.

  1. Do you read this genre or just write it?

I love this genre. I do not read it exclusively, but it's at least 50% of my reading list and I am always looking for a well-written and innovative love story. I DO find that when I read other genres, if the love story doesn't exist, I won't enjoy it, which is why I'm often left dissatisfied with erotica or other genres that miss or ignore the importance of a love story as part of their overall plot.

  1. Do you feel that more men should write romance and erotica?

Depends. Some men can do a great job at telling an amazing loves story (such as Nicholas Sparks) while others miss it. Often, male erotica authors think it's about sex, but it's not. Should there be more? Yeah, if they are talented and can get right. I definitely do NOT endorse an "equal opportunity" mandate for the genre ;-)

  1. What's the most embarrassing thing anyone has sent you?

I received a VHS cassette in the mail from an ex-girlfriend. Needless to say, the content was inappropriate and I realize that even though they say you look bigger in video, some, uh, "things" still don't look big enough. Definitely a problem with the video, in my opinion.

  1. What's the best part of being an Indie author for you?

The publishing industry is undergoing a huge transformation right now. I really do not believe that big corporations have the mindset to understand how to connect with their audience as they've lost a lot of trust. As an indie author, I feel like I get to participate in this transformation, but not only from the angle of making it better for everyone, but also from the quality angle. More and more readers are picking up indie authors, and they do that because our stories are "different" than a lot of what you might pick up from a traditionally published author. That was one reason why I published Textual Encounters - no traditional publisher would take on a novel written 98% in text messages. One reason I wrote non friction was that you don't see many semi-comical love stories about a guy going through a challenging separation. As indie authors, we push the envelope on content and quality, and I'm extremely proud to be a part of it because I can connect with my readers on a personal level - when is the last time John Grisham sent you a thank you card in the mail for picking up one of his books?
