Pieces of Perfect by Elizabeth Hayley Review.

Book Blurb.

ADULT CONTENT - Only Suitable for 17+.

As a sexy ex-hockey player, Max was the bad boy with something to prove. As a handsome single father, Adam was the man most women wait a lifetime for. Each man would take me on a journey of self-discovery that was marred with lies, jealousy, deceit, and a whole lot of fun. They each offered a glimpse of happily ever after, a piece of perfect. But in my constant quest to have it all, I would risk losing everything. Only one thing was certain. I’d never be the same after this.

About the Authors

Elizabeth Hayley is actually "Elizabeth" and "Hayley," two friends who love reading romance novels to obsessive levels. This mutual love prompted them to put their English degrees to good use by penning their own. The product is Pieces of Perfect, their debut novel. They learned a ton about one another through the process, like how they clearly share a brain and have a persistent need to text each other constantly (much to their husbands' chagrin). They are currently getting ready to release Sex Snob, a novel centered around Lily’s roommate Amanda, and have also begun writing the sequel to Pieces of Perfect.

"Elizabeth" lives with her husband, one and a half year old daughter and nutjob of a dog. “Hayley” lives with her husband and her own crazy dog. They are about to adopt a newborn soon. Elizabeth Hayley's writing motto is best captured by the words of Patrick Dennis: "I always start with a clean piece of paper and a dirty mind."

Interview.

1)                  How did you two come together?

Wow! We thought you’d at least wait until the second question to talk about our sex lives. That's a little personal, don't you think? We're close. But not that close.

Sorry, our minds are constantly in the gutter.  Here’s the real answer: we met seven years ago when we got jobs teaching at the same high school.  It wasn’t long before we realized we shared a brain and are almost the same person in a lot of ways.  We both like to read romance books...the smuttier, the better.  One day Hayley said, “I bet we could write one of these.”  The rest is history.

2)                  What is it like to find your writing soul mate?

Hayley:  Like I finally found someone who has an equally dirty mind and who shares my passion of writing smut for the public to enjoy.  Okay, time to be serious for a moment; that doesn’t happen often with me, so savor it.  Writing together gives me a kind of high that I’ve never gotten doing anything else.  I’ve found the sister I always wanted but never had until now.

Elizabeth: Well it's a little difficult to write a smartass comment after that!  But seriously, I feel the same way about Hayley. I feel like a lot of my friends know different sides of me, depending on when we met, what we've experienced together, etc...  But Hayley is really the first person, other than my husband, who knows all of my sides. Sharing a career I love so much with someone like her is . . . beyond words really. She's my sister from another mister, that's for sure.

3)                  Was it difficult for two writers to work on the same book?

Surprisingly no, it was actually easier.  We each only have to write half a book, and we’re lazy so that’s ideal.  In all seriousness, it isn’t difficult at all.  We get to collaborate on ideas and wording, and it definitely helps to have someone critique your writing.  Another person can always look at it with a fresh eye and see problems that you might not see yourself.

4)                  Do you have a favourite character from your books?

Hayley:
My favorite character is probably Amanda from Sex Snob. She’s confident, hilarious, and totally hot.  How could I not love someone who’s exactly like me?

Elizabeth: First of all: Hayley, you're an ass haha. I think I'll always be partial to Lily because she was our first creation. We became writers through her voice. She'll always be pretty special to me.

5)                  Is there more to come from the both of you either together or individually?

We are currently writing the sequel to Pieces of Perfect.  What can we tell you? The point of view will alternate among Lily, Max, and Adam.  We wrote the first four chapters and then jumped to the epilogue because we had such a clear vision of the ending--which we promise will be a HEA : )

6)                  Do you have a certain snack or drink on hand when you write?

Elizabeth:
Nope, I don't like to be distracted by anything, including proper hydration.

Hayley:
Usually a hot cup of coffee (which gets cold quickly once I get into a writing groove and forget to drink it).

7)                  Where's your favourite place to write?

Elizabeth:
I write in bed most of the time because I usually write late at night.

Hayley:
I write in my sunroom with my laptop a lot.  It’s quiet and out of the way.

8)                  If you could team up with any writer dead or alive who would it be?

This is a great question, but neither of us have an easy answer for it!

Elizabeth: If I had to choose, I'd probably choose Flannery O'Connor. All of her writing was symbolic and the deeper meaning behind her words needs to be unearthed through close examination. And most of her symbolism was biblical, which I'm drawn to.  Though I'm pretty sure she would not be into collaborating in our genre haha.

Hayley:
Well, there’s just no way I can compete with an answer like Flannery O’Connor, so I’m not even going to try : (

9)                  Do you have a favourite book or author?

It probably goes without saying, but Fifty Shades of Grey has been life altering for us. We had never read any erotica/romance before that, and now we write it, so we may owe EL James a bottle of wine or some roses or something.

Elizabeth:
My other favorite romance writers are too numerous to name. My non-romance favorites would be David Sedaris, Augusten Burroughs, Sarah Dessen, and Stieg Larsson

Hayley: I love Dan Brown, Sloane Crosley, and David Sedaris.  My favorite romance authors are Gail McHugh, Christina Lauren, and Emma Chase.

10)              As Christmas is approaching what is on your list for Santa?

Elizabeth:
An Amazon gift card so I can stop depleting my bank account with smut.

Hayley:
Chocolate covered cherries and a full-time job writing porn!  I’m easy to please ; )

I would like to Thank both Elizabeth and Hayley for this fun interview.
